NIce pics Rob. Mawes is a lovely little fort, Pendenis is fantastic, especially the battery and map room right on the headland bit overlooking the entrance. Would not like to sail in there.
Visited both when we were in Cornwall a few years back, also Carrick Roads, that is one wide and deep waterway and it goes far inland. We got the ferry over at King Harry and up river there were some big ships anchored.

Our re-enactment group has actually sieged and taken Pendenis on two occasions. The first of which was my first ever command of the Musket block skirmishers. The Brigade Commander simply said rush the Gatehouse, and deploy in skirmish order on the grass inside the castle.
I led the Forlorn Hope, rushed the gatehouse, and deployed a skirmish line as asked only to find that my sixteen survivors were facing the entire Royalist Army drawn up about twenty yards away.

Good info, Rob; it occurs to me that we should start a project trying to catalog extant-in-Napoleonic-era coast defenses worldwide and options to model them; could be a useful resource for supporting large "World at War, ~1760-1815" campaigns.
That is a great idea DB. I am sure that Julian can give us a good starting point with all his research on fortifications. The main problem I have encountered is a lack of detailed information about what additions are post 1815. Some early Victorian stuff added on can be quite misleading.
