CHEESE AND BISCUITS
Location a neutral port somewhere in the Caribbean, The protagonists:
Two French 74's Aquilon commanded by Captain Gerard Camembert, and the Genereux with Admiral Charles de Brie in command.
Two British 74's Defence commanded by Captain Richard Huntley and the Vanguard commanded by Captain Christian Palmer
Action just an old fashioned naval encounter.
The two French ships were spotted leaving port by Huntley and Palmer. Both Captains agreed to continue in an aggressive tack towards the French. Brie and Camembert decided not to evade but to encounter the Defence and Vanguard.

HMS Defence and Vanguard form up in almost line astern there plan to broadside both French Ships in one blow whilst the wind was with them.

Defence and Vanguard go to fighting sails The Defence firing and coming under fire first against Camembert and the Aquilon
the resulting fire from double shot is devastating for both commands as they both suffer multiple mast,fire and rudder damage
plus heavy crew losses leaving both ships dead in the water. Damage to the Vanguard is minor but the Genereux takes mast and fire damage.

Then almost disaster with Defence dead in the water the Vanguard bears down on her stern but for quick thinking and
reactions by Captain Palmer there could have beed a catastrophic collision however Palmer manages to manoeuvre to the
Defence's port with just a glancing blow, also by good fortune the Genereux has pulled away from the fight leaving the
Vanguard to rain down a broadside on the Aquilon.

This results in the destruction and sinking of the Aquilon.

In a last gasp the Genereux fires raking fire at the Defence leaving it severely crippled Onboard the Vanguard Captain
Palmer decides to escort the Defence into port and block the entrance incase the Genereux attempts to finish of the Defence.

The Genereux gives chase but guessing the British plan decides the day is his and pulls away.

Scores for the French ships unfortunately all records for the British were lost during the evading action. (it happens)!

Foot note
The officers of both British ships were shown every courtsey during repairs. Huntley and Palmer being entertained by the local dignitary the Marquis Alfonso du Parmesan the local hard cheese.
