On this day 17 September - from HMS Barbara to the French Pératy
HMS Barbara was an Adonis class schooner of the Royal Navy and launched in 1806. Barbara was commissioned under the command of Lieutenant Edward A. D'Arcey. On 17 September 1807, Barbara, encountered the French privateer Général-Ernouf, which was under the command of a Captain Grassin. After a well-contested action of half an hour the French were able to board and capture her; they then took her into Guadaloupe, where her new owners gave her the name Pératy, intending to use her as a privateer.
