Larger ship models.
Here are three models, two of which I spotted in the stairwell, and one in the armoury at Culzean Castle last week. all from about the time of the Jacobite Rebellions.

Those are pretty. One day I want a good model ship on my desk.
-
-
How did you make it, from a kit or from scratch?
I ask because I am planning on making a plank on frame ship in the not too distant future.
-
Nice thread! I must go find some quality photos of large ship models.
-
This is a Latina Kit Hugh plank on bulkhead but I changed so many parts it's kinda half a scratch build.
-
Those are great looking models.
-
That is a very fine ship indeed Rob.
You are to be congratulated on your constructional skills.
How long was it in the making?
Rob.
-
Thanks Rob, the working time was about 4 months, I think you could cut that time by at least a month if you build the kit all stock which I almost never do. I should post a few pictures of my Sultan it has more than twice the rigging.

A very striking model Bob!
-
Thanks Jim, I really had a good time building this kit and loved doing all the rigging.
-
Another magnificent model Robert.
Well worthy of the glass case that those models I started with were in.
I'm really glad that you have picked up the thread and developed it with your wonderful work.
Thanks.
Rob.

Robert, is it the Sultan, or the Sultana? The reason I ask is that we have a full size reproduction of an English schooner here on the Chesapeake that looks just like that named the Sultana.
-
Yep Dobbs the name is Sultana, I just forgot to put the a at the end, I am a lot better at building models than typing. Yes I have seen pictures of that reproduction before it's pretty well done.
