Default Fortifications and all that stuff.

Thought I'd run you through with my Forts and landscape as I go along with each one.
Here is a shot of my fortifications soaped, washed and ready to start.

It's just a collection of bits and bobs I have accrued over time Julián. I'm just sticking them together to make a low lying Island fortification.
The base is actually a Desert Oasis.

That's the one DB although it is going to end up as a multitude of different fortifications around the Globe as circumstances dictate. I'm just working out the best way to introduce different species of tree for different settings on these Islands.
Plug in seems the way to go.

Yep, drill tiny sockets and build your trees around cut-down sewing pins or similar-diameter wires is what I'd suggest.

    Cheers DB.

I wondered about setting very small diameter brass tube into the foam hillsides just to stop wear and tear. Your idea would then work just fine. It would also solve the problem of different nations colours flying over the fort.

Or thin rubber--like when you strip an insulated wire, embed a chunk of the sheathing. Easier to find than hair-size brass tube. AND it reuses something you were gonna throw away anyway. :)

Here we have all the basic painting complete.
I am just starting the highlighting on the fort, and have placed the guns in place on the island.
I may so some ink washes on certain parts before the highlights, but the lighting has gone for this evening and i prefer daylight for detail work.

Thanks Shipmates, I only stand on the shoulders of Julián as you all know, but there is more to follow as I build up the seacoast based upon his ideas.
Just waiting for Hammerhead on Saturday when I can hopefully pick up a few trees bushes and suchlike ephemera.

Thanks again chaps, and Eric for his Rep points. Normal service will continue as soon as my eyes improve. however I did manage to get the headland started so here is a view of how it marries up with the fort. a soon as I finish the headland I will move onto the adjoining harbour.

The only problem I see is that this can never end, then there's the continent, the complete ocean system, the other continents, the islands one by one, then the poles, then the moon, the planets, sun . . . my boss ran into that problem . . . Cheers! Drat the powder in my rep gun is damp again!

It is the Fort that Julian made (Fort Morro) so the scale is the same as in his pictures. I will post a photo when I can get to focus the camera.

The original dimensions of Morro fort were divided by 3 to make it playable.
I add some pictures about Langton ships (scale 1/1200) to see the relation measures with the fort.

I'm sorry to say it will grow. You will spend more than planed. It is the nature of the beast. My only saviour was the base. By having the base size made me stop. I still look at it and think could I add a........................? ŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁ or for our over the pond friends $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Watch out Rob for the small bits. Towers, farms and trees etc. They look good, but think about packing, moving and storing it. I thought of doing nice bits too. Vol makes very nice trees and I went hmmmm! I'll make some of them! If I had I would not be able to store or move the models safely.

I was thinking that the trees could go into sockets like the flags will Rory. Then I can just add the appropriate ones as needed. It is odd how a French Atlantic Port can suddenly become Caribbean paradise, just by swapping the Oak trees for Palms.

By the way, if you need palms. I can get 30mm tall palm trees (the trunk is cut and already are scaled). I add a picture
