    Default 3 Decks Web Site

I have not seen this site referred to on this forum yet, but thought some members may be interested. It is still being developed and is a bit quirky to navigate, but worth it!

There is a heap of stuff here and some serious research going on. An international group, it seems maybe HQ'd in Spain. They are looking for people who are interested in helping, so I applied. Might be able to contribute something in due course.

    Here is the address: http://3decks.pbworks.com/w/page/913970/FrontPage

    Check it out.

    Cheers

Just been advised via email that the site I listed is no longer in use but is now located here: http://threedecks.org/index.php?display_type=home

For better and worse, ThreeDecks is the main source Ares uses. When you can lay hands on 'em, Rif Winfield's books are better, though, and even though Winfield's books are cited as sources there are some transcription errors like citing French-captured HMS Leander as becoming a 64 (she was only upgunned to a 52, and that was pre-capture).

    Still, generally pretty good.

Still the sort of books I feel in need of DB.
I am sadly lacking in nautical knowledge of this period, outside of novels, and Southey.

They're damn expensive but worth every penny. Winfield also stands on the shoulders of the late David Lyon, some of whose unfinished works he was enlisted to complete.

The threedecks web site was also cited in the "Further Reading" section of the Osprey Book, "British Frigate vs French Frigate"

It does have a huge amount of info to sift through, and I hope they can keep up the good work as well as the site!
