Goya did an extensive series of paintings on the French invasion of Spain. The paintings collection, known as the "Disasters of war", sometimes "Horrors of War" are unusually graphic and depict the guerilla fight from both sides in stark brutality and clarity. They remain to this day some of the most striking and troubling images of war ever painted.

Both paints are in the Prado museum here in Madrid, with the largest collection of Goya's paintings. If you have the chance to see them, it worth the trip.
Also there is a very good novel called Un día de cólera "A day of wrath" ( I don´t know how is translated) written by Arturo Pérez Reverte.
