The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

British firepower from Captain Patch prevails over the French flagship as both the Fleet Captain and Amiral de Brueys are wounded.

As in the battle of the Nile the next round of fire sets Orient on fire as both de Brueys and his Captain perish heroically on the quaterdeck. This shakes the morale of the French fleet.

British spirits are however raised by this early success as they show here.
