As 3D printing gets more sophisticated and the cost continues to drop there's no reason Ares couldn't diversify its production to other areas of the world.

Probably true, but see earlier comments regarding Ares' likely financial situation. As and when this mode of operating takes off I'd anticipate Ares will not be early adopters.

3 D printing as it applies to sails has some way to go as a commercially viable product. The finishes I've seen so far are well below the standard I'd consider acceptable for a model. Give it a few years though....
