Butcombe’s customers recently turned sailors for the day as they enjoyed the launch of the brewery’s new permanent ‘Matthew Pale Ale’ on board the sensational full-size working replica of John Cabot’s ship ‘The Matthew’.
The ship pays homage to John Cabot, the famous honorary Bristolian seafarer and explorer, who sailed from Bristol in 1497 aboard ‘The Matthew’ laying claim to discovering North America. ‘The Matthew’, usually moored outside the Arnolfini arts centre and gallery in central Bristol, was moored for the day outside Butcombe’s flagship waterfront pub, The Cottage on Baltic Wharf, with its legendary views of the Clifton Suspension Bridge and Cliftonwood’s colourful houses.
