I had thought about trying something like that, but I'm worried that it would raise the profile to be too high? It would also make it more difficult placing and anchoring the masts. I tried something similar with the Santisima Trinidad on the quarterdeck and it worked okay but it made rigging much more difficult.

If I get an extra 1st rate I may still try something similar, or I could try that idea on one of the 74's if I decide to do the USS Ohio SoL?

    Thanks for the suggestion.

    Jim,
about the rigging difficult! If you go to vol's blog and look at my "How to, part 4" this may solve your rigging porblem.

Thanks Rory. I've got that information bookmarked (http://volsminiatures.blogspot.com/2...200-scale.html). Still haven't tried your boat launching from the waist of a ship yet. . .someday. :)

Almost ready for rigging, but a fair amount of touch up painting to do. I spent more time installing the base magnets which allows me to switch from an SoG base to Langton base as needed. Cheers.

Thanks Rory. I'm probably going with the basic Langton standing rigging and not add running rigging. I have the Anchorage brass ratlines to add as well.

Having looked at the photos online I'm going to tone down the stern gallery "whiteness". US ships didn't have a lot of ornamentation there so darkening it a bit will improve the look I think.

Neil, if you look closely at the black and white photos 1 and 3 you can see there is still the opening to the gun deck below, about the same size as Jim's model. The boats just obsure it somewhat.

Jim, she is looking beautiful. The black and white painting is very striking.

Standing rigging is done. Next up is brass ratlines. I much prefer the toned down stern; much less white and perhaps more likely for US decoration? Cheers!

She's done. I wrapped up with the ratlines yesterday and put the boats on this morning. Took lots of photos this afternoon. Cheers!

    Very nice.
    Excellent work.
Were the little boat part of the original model?

Thanks! I really do like how the black and white pops on the ship sculpt.

Thank you. The little ships came from two GHQ kits; the Santisima Trinidad and HMS Victory if I remember correctly.

Jim, she is quite lovely. I agree about the B&W popping. It is nice to see another U.S. ship in the water.

Beautiful. That is gorgeous. That will fit in perfect next to the Constitution when it comes out. The black and white just looks so good.

She came out fantastic. Great work. Now all you need is Santisima Trinidad and HMS Victory so she can turn them into toothpicks!

Thanks all. It's fun seeing additional US ships on the water. Makes me more anxious for the Constitution, and some of the heavy frigate variations we'll be able to bring to the table.

Jim, your work is inspirational and a large part of the reason I've gotten into SoG.

Excellent images here and on BGG

    A couple questions...
How did you remove the masts from the Orient/USS Pennsylvania?
Did you use regular isopropyl alcohol to strip the paint and decals?
