    Default Paper SOL

I thought this would be of interest. I made this 64 gun SOL last year while waiting for SOG to arrive. The plans come from the war artisan (www.warartisan.com). The ship hull is made of card stock (craft paper), sails are paper and the masts are florist wire. The site has a free plan download. Also contains a tutorial on doing rigging with cotton thread (stiffened with white glue). I used the stiffen cotton thread to help in creating my ratlines (no ratlines for this paper ship)
We might want to perma-link the rigging tutorial. It's very similar to the paintbrush rigging.

NB: That's a dime in the picture for reference. Can't remember if I kept the scale at 900 or 1000.

I've yet to build any of War Artisan's ships, and they certainly do look good. He's a regular over on The Miniature's Page (I don't think he's a member here?). Thanks for the link. I may have to check out the East Indiaman, which would be good for future scenarios or campaigns?

    Well done, Darren.

I have seen some wonderful paper minis on the Aerodrome. It is nice seeing them here as well.

    Thanks for the link.

Good looking ship Darren. The masts look sturdier (and probably are) than the SGN 1st rates.

Masts aren't straight and neither are they in 3 segments.
Might be a alternative to use florist wire instead of brass for any future mast replacements (not me for now)

Now we just need someone to carve a model from a Scotch Pine -- then we can have a Pine-SoL.

At least it was a clean pun, one that does not soil us when reading it. I wonder if the sun would severely bleach such a ship's coloring though? Personally, I would use such an SoL for mopping up duties as opposed to putting it in a line formation.

LOL I think most folks would think you've already got your priorities right?

How about a mini made from graphite and wood -- a pen-SoL?

Ed, that stare is usually associated with lines like "I'm the one who's going to tell the Attorney General whether or not YOU should be charged with Obstructing a Federal Investigation or Criminally Negligent Homicide."

If I see one more like "a pen-SoL", I'll turn myself in.

I've played it twice. The rules seemed relatively simple. I found it easy to use actual tactics with them.

Anything worth adapting to SoG? Since we'll be working on the second round of solo rules soon, I might read these for ideas.

Ed, I am interested in hearing your opinion if you read these.

I don't think so. The mechanics are quite different and the game is geared towards small ships, such as keeping track of individual guns of different sizes.

Yeah, I get that latter too... usually shrieked like a banshee, leaving my ears ringing for the next hour. She KNOWS I have sensitivity problems with high-frequency noise giving me headaches and still...

I imagine this would play well with the larger scale paper ships available on the site. I might have to purchase a couple of the large ones and try - a nice duel, I think.

I believe we were pointed to this site awhile back; this seems familiar. Then again, we just started watching Doctor Who, so time and memory are a bit in flux.
