Pardon my ignorance....?
Just goes to show what good teachers we are!
I do hope that you were not intimating that Scotland was a colony, or we will all be in a spot of bother Jonas.
Rob.
No, I wasn't thinking of Scotland. That comment about colonies were more along the lines of Australia, South Africa, India and so on...
I guessed that Jonas. I was just pulling your leg.

Many decades ago, I spent several hours in a pub in Harlech with several Welshmen trying to explain cricket to me....perhaps it was the hour, the drinks, or the Welsh trying to explain an English game, but it was lost on me....however football (or soccer as we call it) is a fabulous game that I really enjoy watching.
The problem with teaching Cricket is that people try to explain all the rules in one go.
When you learn any game, you take in the main facts and add to them as you progress.
All you really need to know to start off is that there are two teams of 11 players. One side in the field of play and two hitters from the other side. The aim of the pitcher is to either knock down the sticks behind the hitter, or when he hits the ball have him caught by a fielder just like baseball except for the sticks being there. The objective of the hitter is to get to the sticks at the end where his partner is. His partner will run the other way to take his place. If they both make it, a point is scored for them. if not a new hitter has to come and take his place just like Baseball.
All the other small rules can be explained if they happen.

When I was stationed in Italy the UK staff and students of the training school I was posted to used to play a game of cricket against the US staff and students which we Brits rarely lost due to the rules, unfortunately the US seemed to have a problem with the bowling action.
But they got their revenge when they played us at Softball as we Brits thought it was just a version of rounders, we were quickly shown the error of that assumption.
Oh and come on England, I am busy washing my shirt ready for the first game
Let's see - the US is out :embarass: , the Netherlands is out  so I'll go with England for the cup, despite Wilshire being left off the team. Much rather see someone other than Germany or Brazil in the final anyway.
I did like that the US youngsters gave the French A team a shock in the last friendly match.
With the Netherlands being my second home as a youngling I was very upset to see them out of the cup.
i will now watch the proceedings of the first round with utmost interest but no second line of defence if it all goes pear shaped for the Lions.
Rob.
The computer says the Cup goes to Spain (or maybe Germany)....

If that is to be the outcome, thank goodness we will only have to watch it once!
Rob.
Saw this and thought of you guys.
